Confident speaking
9th January 2009, 10am-4pm
To be held at the Creativity Centre, University of Brighton. Lunch and refreshments are included.
Lectures, presentations, chairing meetings and presenting at conferences are just some of the ways in which we are required to speak and occasionally perform as staff at the University of Brighton. However, many of us struggle with speaking publically, worrying that our delivery is not good enough and that our message simply is not getting through to the desired audience.
We will cover exercises and discussions to help you feel more confident and motivated about speaking in front of an audience. The afternoon session will be led by actor Paul Moriarty (right) who has an extensive portfolio including work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and numerous television appearances, including a major role as George Palmer in East Enders. Paul will be giving you feedback on your presentation style and suggesting ways to improve on delivery.
This workshop provides a safe, supportive and creative space in which to develop your confidence and skill with public speaking.
The workshop will cover:
- Becoming more comfortable with public speaking
- Identifying when, where and how you deliver material that you are proud of
- Getting to know and love your voice
- Enhancing your process
By the end of the day you will be able to:
- Feel more confident in your ability to speak effectively in front of an audience
- Lower your stress and anxiety around speaking in public
- Produce well-structured material that communicates what you want to say
- Select the right style and tone for different purposes
