What we do
work write live works with small and large businesses, with public, voluntary and community sector organisations, and with individuals to develop writing confidence and skills.
We offer a unique approach to writing development which focuses on the writing process. We encourage individuals to examine their relationship to writing, including their reasons for writing, their past and present experiences of writing, and their own difficulties with starting, keeping going and finishing writing projects. We then guide individuals to formulate strategies for overcoming writing problems and to make a plan for their future writing. Guidance on technical skills such as structuring a piece of work, or the effective use of grammar and punctuation, is also provided if requested. In some cases, we provide ongoing one-to-one sessions, supporting individuals with specific writing projects in the course of their professional work.
We find that our approach, which combines creative, behavioural and technical guidance, proves the most effective for overcoming difficulties with writing, ensuring comfort with the writing process, and for producing successful documents. Our approach is based on proven principles used in the teaching of creative and technical writing and on sound academic research into the writing process.
Feedback suggests that, as well as helping with the writing process, our workshops constitute a holistic form of professional development. Participants value the space to reflect on their writing experiences, to engage with their own creativity, and to consider their future needs and plans.
